Groups

COVID-19 Update: All groups are offered virtually as we prioritize the health and safety of our community. We hope to welcome everyone back in person as soon as we are able. – April 1, 2022.

The Women’s Centre of Hamilton offers various groups throughout the year to provide support and help build connection and solidarity. Group counselling can assist in overcoming isolation, connecting with others who have similar lived experience, and recognizing that you are not alone. They also aim to enhance safety, resiliency, and awareness.

Groups offered at the Women’s Centre of Hamilton include:

Parenting Circle

You are welcomed into a weekly, open group that explores topics such as positive parenting skills, triggers and developing tools to better cope with emotions, enhancing the relationship with your child, and the impacts of gender-based violence on child/ren and parenting. Topics are added based on demand and interest.

Hero’s Journey

For children (ages 8-12) who have been experienced domestic violence, this group focuses on the individual gifts, abilities, and resiliencies of each child and helps build self-esteem. Activities include mask-making, art activities, guided imagery, and more.

Rebuilding a Healthy Me
We know the impact that abuse and violence can have on our self-esteem and confidence. We also know that this is compounded by messages we receive in our society and networks. Identify and build upon your unique gifts and abilities by learning how to understand and believe in the wonderful person that you are.
Return to Me

This 4-week, online group is an adaptation of My Journey to Self. This group will explore your inner creative mind. This group is an introspective and reflective journey of the self that incorporates meditation, art, and other creative mediums. If you are needing to reconnect with others and take charge of your self-care, then this group is for you.

Women’s Wellness
Learn to balance a healthy mind with a healthy body, by exploring the impacts of stress and creating new and more effective ways to manage. This group will explore all the elements that contribute to wellness and help create individualized wellness plans to assist you in your daily life.
Understanding Anger
Anger can feel overwhelming and is often misunderstood. Although anger can be scary and surface suddenly, we hope to help you unravel the roots of your anger with curiosity and acceptance and learn purposeful ways to express yourself and understand other emotions you may be feeling.
