Volunteer

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” – Elizabeth Andrew

The Women’s Centre of Hamilton offers opportunities to volunteer as a peer support and/or court support volunteer.

Volunteers are valued members of our team and have provided amazing supports over the years to women accessing services at the Women’s Centre.

Our volunteers work in-office or in-community and provide court accompaniment, emotional support, goal planning, referrals, and additional tips and strategies to navigate issues or concerns a client identifies or requests support for.

Peer Support Volunteers
Peer Support volunteers understand from personal experience the impacts of gender-based violence and abuse. Our peer support volunteers create an authentic, collaborative, and welcoming environment to further support clients, provide information and options, and reconnect to counselling services if needed.
Court Support Volunteers
Our Court Support volunteers accompany clients to court, take notes, provide emotional support and debriefing, and support the Legal Advocate as they assist women in navigating the legal system and addressing legal concerns or issues. Court Support volunteers provide additional information and knowledge about the Courts and are familiar with attending and preparing for court.
